How to tune your guitar online

  1. Press Start tuning and allow microphone access. Audio is analyzed only in this browser.
  2. Pluck one open string and let it ring while the other strings stay quiet. Auto selects the closest guitar string.
  3. Tighten when the note is too low and loosen when it is too high. Make small turns until the meter says In tune.
  4. Repeat from the thick E2 string to the thin E4 string, then check all six strings a second time.

If access was denied, open your browser microphone setting and try again. You can always tune by ear without a microphone.

Guitar tuning tips

Tune in two passes

Changing one guitar string changes neck tension slightly. Recheck every open string after the first pass.

Let the attack settle

Pluck one string gently and wait for the initial overtones to fade before making another peg adjustment.

Check the target before tightening

If the displayed note is far from the selected string, stop and confirm the string and octave before adding tension.

Private, browser-based tuning

Pitch detection runs locally with Web Audio. The site does not record, upload, or retain microphone audio. If microphone access is blocked or unavailable, tap a string on the tuner to hear its reference note and tune by ear.

Guitar tuner FAQ

Does the guitar tuner work on iPhone?

Yes. In Safari, press Start tuning and allow microphone access when prompted. If access stays blocked, tap a string on the tuner to hear its note and tune by ear.

Is microphone audio uploaded?

No. Pitch detection happens locally in your browser, and no recording is stored.

What reference pitch should I use?

A4 = 440 Hz is the usual choice. Use another value only when you need to match an ensemble or instrument that uses it.

Why does the meter move around?

Play one string at a time, move closer to the microphone, and let the note ring. Noise and overlapping strings make pitch uncertain.

Can I tune without microphone permission?

Yes. Tap a string on the tuner to hear its target note; the microphone stays off.
