Privacy policy
Last updated: Oct 23, 2026
This policy explains how information is handled when you use tuningguitar.org and the choices available to you.
Operator and data controller
Tuning Guitar is operated by an individual. The person responsible for the processing described here is:
Ellis Claire
942 Brilliance Ln
Costa Mesa, CA 92626
United States of America
Microphone and audio
Tuning Guitar requests microphone access only after you press Start tuning. Audio is processed in real time in your browser memory. It is not recorded, sent to Tuning Guitar, or stored permanently. Stopping the tuner or leaving the page ends the microphone stream.
You can revoke microphone permission at any time in your browser or operating-system settings. Reference tones (tap a string) and tuning by ear work without microphone access.
Local preferences
Reference pitch, note names, sound, vibration, reference-tone timbre, whether pitch history and stage mode are enabled, ukulele size and High G or Low G, each instrument’s last tuning (guitar, bass and ukulele), custom tunings for each instrument, chromatic mode, sustained reference tones, whether you closed the language hint, and theme may be saved in your browser’s local storage. Custom tuning names and pitches stay on this device. Clear this site’s browser data to remove all these preferences; Reset in the tuner settings restores the tuner defaults.
Tuning Guitar does not store raw audio, PCM data, or a continuous frequency or pitch history.
Analytics
This site can use Plausible Analytics or Umami for data-minimised audience measurement when the relevant service is configured. Without configuration, no analytics scripts load. These services operate without cookies in the configuration intended here. They record aggregate page views and selected actions, such as starting the tuner, a microphone permission result, a string reaching in tune or a reference tone. This site’s Plausible instance is stats.rainbowcoloringpage.com. Audio, continuous pitch readings, email contents and custom tuning names are not sent as analytics events.
An enabled analytics service receives normal technical request data such as IP address and browser type to produce aggregate visitor, device and referral statistics. We use these statistics to understand usage and reliability; we do not create user accounts or cross-device advertising profiles.
Advertising and consent
Advertising is optional: Google AdSense loads ads below the tuner and between page sections only when configured for this website. Without that configuration, neither the AdSense script nor ads load. When advertising is enabled, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies and receive technical data such as IP address and browser information to deliver and measure ads. Microphone audio is processed locally, is never uploaded and is not used for advertising.
When advertising is configured, Google’s consent message provides the required choices in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland. You can accept, reject or manage purposes there. Once that message is available, Privacy settings appears in the footer to change or withdraw your choice. This link is absent when advertising is disabled or the consent interface is unavailable. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser. The tuner works independently of advertising consent.
Hosting and technical requests
Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, hosts and protects this website through Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes technical request data such as IP address, requested URL, time, browser type and, when supplied, referring page to deliver the site, prevent abuse and diagnose errors. Microphone audio is not sent to Cloudflare.
Contact by email
If you email us, we process your email address, message and information you choose to provide to respond to your request. Cloudflare Email Routing forwards messages to the operator’s Gmail mailbox (Google); these providers process the correspondence for delivery and storage. Please avoid sending audio recordings or sensitive information that is unnecessary for your request. Using the tuner does not require an account or personal details.
Purposes and legal bases
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating a reliable, understandable tuner for site delivery, security, troubleshooting and data-minimised audience measurement (Article 6(1)(f)). Where necessary, requests about a service you ask for are handled under Article 6(1)(b), other correspondence under Article 6(1)(f), and legal obligations under Article 6(1)(c). Advertising and non-essential storage that require consent rely on Article 6(1)(a) and applicable device-storage rules. Browser microphone permission authorises local audio processing only.
Recipients and international processing
Recipients are the hosting, email and, when enabled, analytics or advertising providers needed for the relevant purpose, and authorities where disclosure is legally required. The operator is based in the United States; Cloudflare and Google may also process data internationally. Where legally required, transfers from the EEA must rely on a valid adequacy decision, standard contractual clauses or another permitted mechanism. Further information is available in the linked provider policies or by email.
Retention
Microphone audio exists only in memory during analysis and is not retained. Local preferences remain on your device until reset or deletion of site data. We keep email correspondence only as needed to handle the request, maintain necessary records or meet legal obligations. Technical data and aggregate statistics follow the retention and deletion rules of the service involved.
Your privacy rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data, and object to processing. In particular, you may object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your situation. You may withdraw consent at any time for future processing without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing.
Use the contact address above to exercise your rights. We may reasonably verify your identity and will respond within applicable legal time limits. You may also complain to a competent data protection authority, including where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. We cannot retrieve or delete individual microphone recordings because we do not receive them; local preferences can be deleted in your browser.
Children
This tuner is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly ask children to submit personal information. If a child has emailed us personal information, a parent or guardian can contact us so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.
Changes to this policy
When the website, providers or privacy practices change, we update this page and its date. New services that require consent will be enabled with the required privacy choices.
